"Peranzana" olive: symbol par excellence of the historical, cultural and environmental heritage of the Tavoliere in the countryside of Torremaggiore .
Historically, the Peranzana originated in Provence, in fact, its name is a transform dialect of the term 'Provenzale'. This type of the plant was already transplanted, during the middle of 1700, in the Torremaggiore countryside, by Raimondo De Sangro, a man of noble lineage, as well as prince of San Severo and Duke of Torremaggiore.
Between the 1950s and 1960s, another descendant of the De Sangre family, Michele, built a modern oil mill for the time which reduced oil production times and improved its quality.
The Peranzana Tree is recognized as a product with a "dual aptitude" as it can be used as a olive of particular value.
The Peranzana oil has highlighted valuable product characteristics, due to the optimal consistency of its pulp and the sweet and balanced taste associated with an evident aftertaste of unripe tomato.
